Over the past several years, the City of Trenton has been diligently working on enhancing its trail system, bicycle network and connection to the Downriver Linked Greenways, part of the state-wide Iron Belle Trail. As a benefit of our efforts, Trenton was selected to implement a Pilot Trail Town initiative for the community. This exciting opportunity was made possible through a grant received last year by the Downriver Linked Greenways Initiative (DLGI) from the Ralph J. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Fund.
As a result, a Trail Town Master Plan was created for our community. This master plan will help Trenton leverage its trail assets for community and economic development. The focus of this plan is on both water trail and non-motorized land trail assets and how they connect with the business district, offering an opportunity to broaden the effectiveness of a Trail Town Strategy. A Trail Town Advisory Committee has been formed to help implement the plan and volunteers are needed. The committee meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 8:30 a.m.
To join the committee or to learn more about the effort, contact Trenton Parks and Recreation at (734) 675-7300 or email Trenton Parks and Recreation Director, Tim Beaker, at tbeaker@trenton-mi.com. Watch for Trail Town Updates throughout the year. See you on the trails!
